fried fish and stone splinters

The Black Sails of Ha Long Bay...

000000
funny photo, eh?

Maybe we'll start a band, this can be our album cover.

This is what 9 o'clock at night looks like on Quan Lan island.

Just sittin' on the dock of the bay.

So at 4:30 in the afternoon, 3 of us had the brilliant idea of renting a small kayak-like raft, also known as a 'ducky' (for it's patheticness of not obtaining the status of raft nor kayak).
It went fine until we decided to try and "catch" a wave. Instead of catching it we just went right into it and I got thrown off the front onto a pile of rocks. Except for the 1/4 inch stone spilter stuck in my foot it was quite fun! Anyway, these are the photos of Shorty getting it out with tweezers and a needle. After 2 hours and countless gin and tonics later, we got the splinter (which had shattered into 4 pieces) out of my foot.
We eventually paddled to an island that would be the climbers paradise/torture chamber. The walls had unbelieveable holds, but the texture of the rock looked like the whipped frosting of a Birthday cake and felt like grabbing the pointy parts of forks and knives and barbecue thongs. Rough life.

Village Festival (February 12th)

On Sunday February 12th our group went to a small village, Song V an, 70 kilometers (45 miles or so) outside of Hanoi for a traditional festival. Wild stuff.
